Energy Technique: Reclaiming
Spring is here, summer is on the way. This means that it's a lot easier for those of us in warmer climes to get in contact with the bare earth. If you've been struggling in any way, I can't recommend this enough.
Look, I had an amazing and blessed childhood in a lot of ways, but there was also a lot of emotional turmoil. I would not call the house that I grew up in "healthy," and so despite all of the advantages of my upbringing, there was still a lot of emotional, mental, and spiritual toxicity to wade through.
But what turned out to be a lifesaver for me was that the backyard was almost entirely flagstone patio.
And during the summer months, I would go outside almost every single day and lie down on the flagstone, on my stomach. And I would stay there until I felt better. Had you asked me back then what I was doing, I would have said- "It's warm. It feels good." But now I know that there was more to it than just that. Something in me would shift whenever I had one of these stone sessions.
Without even knowing what earthing was, or why people would do it, I was "earthing" almost every day. Because I needed it. It was the only way I knew how to keep myself balanced.
It has been years since I was able to do that, due primarily to living in spider-infested locales, but this weekend I found myself utterly drained, dealing with a resurgence of chronic pain, imbalanced, and needing an easy way to get back as much energy as possible. I was visiting my mother, so I borrowed one of her beach quilts and took it out to her driveway (not the lawn! No! Way too many spiders!), spread it out, and laid there on the asphalt for almost an hour. I wondered if it would have the same effect on me.
It did. I didn't sleep. I didn't even think about much of anything. I just laid there, felt the warmth of the sun-soaked ground, and occasionally flipped from my back to my stomach (laying on stone or asphalt is by no means comfortable but it's not that bad if you shift every now and then).
Earthing is truly one tried and true technique that I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone with chronic pain, fatigue, lack of energy, or just a whirlwind of emotions.
The other is a brief visualization* that always has me feeling better when I can't get outside.
Just close your eyes (after you read this).
Picture a glowing ball in front of you. Know that this is your ball of energy. Look at the size of it, the color of it, the shape of it. And now command all of your missing energy to return to this sphere. Watch what colors and ribbons of light come surging in from all sides. Watch it grow. Know that as any energy enters the sphere, it becomes cleansed and purified. This is your energy returning to you from other people, other places.
When the sphere stops growing, mentally draw it over you, so that you sit inside it - as if it was a bubble. Feel how warm and comforting the energy is, and let yourself soak it up like a sponge. See it seep into your skin, pour into your hips, and as you pull the energy back into yourself the bubble around you grows smaller and smaller, until you've taken all your energy back, and the bubble is just a thin second-skin of light around your body.
Thank your guides. Thank the universe. Thank yourself.
